Measure the load before changing any settings
- Note your browser, its version, your OS and the list of open services. Flag any active calls, video, or file downloads.
- Open the browser's own task manager from its menu, along with the system's resource monitor. Find the tabs and extensions with high load.
- Repeat the observation after a few minutes of idling, and again during the problem action. Peak load at launch is different from sustained load.
- When comparing apps, account for every child process. A single number next to the main window doesn't describe total memory usage.
What to change first
Close duplicate tabs for the same account, unnecessary video pages, and any extension actually contributing to the slowdown. Check for updates. Disable extensions one at a time, so it stays clear which change actually helped.
Unloading background tabs can free up memory, but it affects the connection to that web service. After changing a power-saving setting, get a test message while the tab is in the background. Don't assume any given site will keep notifying you after its tab is closed — behavior depends on that site's own implementation and the browser.
How to fairly compare Centrio with a browser
Add the same set of services to Centrio and close their duplicates in the browser. Compare the same open chats, the same idle duration, and the same task. If the browser is still needed for other work, count it alongside Centrio, not instead of it.
Centrio may turn out more convenient thanks to its separate window and account organization. But without a reproducible test, you can't promise a fixed number of megabytes saved, a specific speedup, or longer battery life. The web services themselves and the number of accounts you run both affect the result.
If messages only arrive after you open the tab
Check power-saving mode, whether you're actually signed in, your network, and OS notification settings. First confirm the message actually showed up in the web client at all, then separate a delivery problem from a missing pop-up notification.
Note whether the issue happens after your computer sleeps, only on one service, or on all of them. That detail is more useful to support than a general "the app is slow."
