Some messengers and social networks accessed through their web version show ads directly in the interface, the same way they would in a mobile app. Centrio's built-in ad blocker applies filtering rules to the pages it loads. The result depends on the site and the current rule set — complete removal of ads and compatibility after every site update are not guaranteed.
What gets blocked
- Banner and video ads: ad blocks on social network and webmail pages — especially noticeable on services like VK and Odnoklassniki, where ads are built directly into the feed and side panels.
- Third-party trackers and analytics: scripts that collect behavioral data for ad networks are blocked before they get a chance to send that data.
- Subscribe-overlay popups: modal windows that cover the content until you agree to push notifications or close the banner manually.
- Autoplay video ads: video that starts playing on its own as you scroll — a frequent source of unexpected sound from a background tab.
Why bother, if the ads are "already there"
- Fewer distractions: ad banners compete for attention with the actual content of the page — removing them makes the interface visually calmer.
- Faster page loads: part of load time goes specifically to ad scripts and trackers — blocking them at the network level saves that time before the page even renders.
- Less data used: ad banners and video aren't free megabytes, which matters more on a limited or slow connection.
How to turn it on in 3 steps
- Open Settings → Extensions. The list of extensions lives in the sidebar of Centrio's settings.
- Turn on "AdBlock". One switch enables blocking for every connected messenger and service at once — there's no need to configure each tab separately.
- Refresh any tabs that were already open. If a service was open before you enabled the blocker, refresh the tab (Ctrl+R) — the rule starts applying immediately to new page loads.
FAQ
Does the ad blocker work across every connected service?
Yes — the rule applies to all tabs as soon as you turn it on. There's no need to configure each messenger separately.
Can the blocker break a site?
In rare cases, a site whose interface depends heavily on ad scripts may render differently. If a service behaves oddly after you enable it, try the AdBlock toggle available in your version and test again.
Is AdBlock in Centrio the same as a uBlock Origin extension?
The underlying idea is similar — blocking by lists of known ad and tracking domains — but the built-in version works at the level of the whole app rather than a single browser, and it doesn't require installing a third-party extension.
Do I need Pro for the ad blocker?
Yes, AdBlock is part of Centrio's Pro extension set, alongside forced dark mode for any service, split screen and folders.
If a button, video, or login form disappears
Blocking depends on the rule set and how a given site is built: no version of the blocker can promise removal of every ad, every tracker, or every popup. Ads built directly into a site's own content may still remain.
Compare the same page with and without the blocker, refreshing the tab after each change. If a needed feature disappears, note the address and the action for support. Don't change VPN, theme and the blocker at the same time — otherwise the cause becomes harder to find.
