Far from every website or web service offers its own dark theme — plenty of corporate mail clients, CRM systems, and niche messengers stay bright white even when the operating system and everything else on the computer is running dark. Centrio's centralized fix for this is an extension that inverts a page's colors on the fly, without waiting for the service's developers to add a dark mode of their own.
Why it's not just about aesthetics
Find a comfortable contrast: comfort depends on lighting, brightness, and personal preference. Compare light and dark mode at your usual text scale; dark mode isn't a medical recommendation.
Keep window appearance consistent: if most of your work apps are already dark, one bright web page can be distracting on its own. Check the service's own built-in theme first.
Check readability: forced conversion can change how images, button states, and text selection look. Make sure form errors and links are still distinguishable.
How to enable it
- Turn on the extension. Settings → Extensions → "Dark Mode" — the toggle enables the ability to apply forced color inversion to services at all.
- Right-click the tab you want. A "Dark Mode" option appears in the context menu — it applies individually to each messenger, not globally to all of them at once.
- Turn it off where it isn't needed. Some services already have a solid built-in dark theme (Telegram, for example) — forced inversion usually isn't necessary there; just switch the theme in the service's own settings.
Frequently asked questions
How is forced dark mode different from a built-in one?
A built-in dark theme is designed by the service itself and accounts for every interface element. A forced one is a page-level color inversion that redraws the page without the service having its own dark theme, though it sometimes doesn't land perfectly on individual elements like images.
Does dark mode work equally well for every service?
Quality depends on the structure of the specific site. For most text-heavy interfaces the result looks natural, but pages with a lot of embedded images on a light background can sometimes look off — that's a limitation of forced inversion in general, not of a particular implementation.
Do I need a Pro subscription for dark mode?
Yes, Dark Mode is part of Centrio's Pro extension set.
