Three ways to get a standalone window
The official Telegram Desktop is worth checking first if Telegram is the only thing you need — it doesn't require installing an aggregator for a single service. The web client is worth it if you specifically like its interface, or you want Telegram sitting alongside other web services.
Your browser may support installing a site as an app, or opening a shortcut in its own window. Availability and the exact command name depend on the browser and OS; this option shouldn't be written off as inherently unreliable. Notifications in a regular browser tab are also possible with the right permissions.
Centrio opens Telegram Web in its own window alongside other services and separate accounts. The taskbar icon belongs to Centrio, not to a separate copy of the official Telegram Desktop.
Setting up Telegram Web in Centrio
- Download the current Centrio build for your OS from the download page. Check the size and requirements there, not from an old version number in this article.
- Add Telegram from the catalog and confirm the sign-in page opens on Telegram's official address.
- Complete the sign-in flow the service provides. Never share a code or QR code with anyone else.
- Set up Telegram's own notifications, its in-app permission, and Centrio's OS-level notifications. Send yourself a test message while the window is minimized.
- If you're adding another account, create a separate tab and label it clearly. Free supports up to 3 services.
What still stays a web-version limitation
Centrio doesn't turn the web client into a native Telegram Desktop app. The set of supported calls, chats, menus and sign-in methods is determined by that specific web version and can differ from other clients. Test a feature you consider essential for work before relying on it.
An aggregator doesn't get around an organization's restriction on installing software: if software installation is restricted, clear the client with your administrator or use an approved browser instead.
If notifications aren't arriving
Check that the chat isn't muted, the Telegram session is active, Centrio is running, and the OS hasn't switched on "Do Not Disturb." A minimized window and a fully closed app are different states. Sleep mode can also interrupt notification delivery.
Get a test message in the background, then open the tab. If the message is there but there was no system banner, investigate the permission chain first. If there's no message even after refreshing, check your sign-in and network.
